This wish is all about a Dad taking his three beautiful daughters on a trip they won’t forget! Patrick and his wife Kristine have three daughters ages 8, 6 and 2. When Patrick found out that he had cancer his first and immediate thought was for his daughters and what he could do to create some memories. Kristine wrote in part about her husband – “Patrick is an amazing father. He has given our girls the gifts of confidence in themselves, empathy towards others and a view of the world that is greater than them. He is a trip planner extraordinaire, considering what everyone else might enjoy on vacation….”

We got to work and with the help of some pretty amazing people they had the trip that Patrick had wanted. A very special thank you goes to David down in California who helped make this dream come true. We have never met David but through a friend were put in contact with him and he stepped up and jumped in to help!

Niagara Falls Here We Come!

James married the love of his ife Elizabeth 4 days after undergoing surgery in August/12. James was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of brain cancer but that didn’t stop this couple from getting married aboard the Maid of the Mist in Niagara Falls. This year the cancer returned with a vengeance. Because of Jame’s love for flying, his wish to us was to fly over Niagara Falls in a helicopter to create a magical memory celebrating their wedding. We received this wish and went to work with the help of some great people. The first thing we did was to contact Great Lakes Helicopter and book a ride for James and Elizabeth. The folks there were delighted to be able to assist us in this wish and made sure that the couple had a great time. Many thanks to everyone at Great Lakes Helicopter for making this possible. Then we thought that the best way to travel was by limo so when we contacted Golden Stretch Limo they not only gave us an amazing deal, but did everything they could to ensure that James and Elizabeth had a great ride.

The day wasn’t over yet. We arranged for the limo to bring our couple to Blackshop restaurant where they enjoyed a fantastic meal, and Blackshop arranged for a gorgeous flower arrangement to be on the table when they arrived. A great ending to a day full of memories.

Wedding Bells

All of our wishes are as different and unique as the person requesting them. In this wish we get to help plan a wedding! Leona wrote to us asking for our help. Leona was getting set to marry her fiancee John and had her dress and the rings. But they needed help with the rest of the wedding. We posted their request on our Facebook Group and the results were amazing! The community came together and put on a wonderful Event for John and Leona. You will have to visit our Facebook Group page to see all the items that were donated – from the cake to wedding favors to flowers to the music. And so much more! A very special thank you to everyone who was involved with this wedding. Wishes do come true! Here is a picture of the wedding party.

A Family Gets Together

bryan_and_family
JBryan, at 59 years old, was a family man. His family and grandchildren were the most important people in his life. Bryan’s wish intially was to go on an African Safari with his family. When we investigated what would be required, Bryan realized he would not be able to go, so the dream changed slightly to coming out to Edmonton to spend a few days at Fantasyland Hotel where he could visit with his son and family from Sherwood Park, and we would also fly out his other son and daughter-in-law from Vancouver. Again – as his health declined we had to switch the wish slightly. We wound up flying Bryan’s family from Sherwood Park to see Bryan in Victoria. We brought his other son and daughter-in-law from Vancouver, and the family was finally together. They spent a week creating memories, reminiscing about happier times, and just enjoyed each other’s company. Aaren sent us a wonderful picture of the family together. Bryan and his wife were so grateful that they had that time together.

A Father and His Daughter

In March/10 Larry wrote to us asking our help for one very important wish. Larry was 48 and his only child, Candice, was getting married. Like any father of the bride he wanted to be able to walk her down the aisle and have that all important ‘father/daughter’ dance. The date of the wedding was set for August/10 but when Larry received his diagnosis of cancer, he knew that making that date would be impossible. Moving a wedding date is no easy feat – especially when it comes to the financial end. Larry wrote for our assistance and we were so glad to be able to help this father walk his daughter down the aisle. With our financial help, the wedding was moved to June/10. Larry passed away this month, and the message we received read “During the wedding Larry made it a point to state that this day was possible because of his Angels. Now, he is at peace. Larry fought hard. His spirits, even though he was noticibly exhausted, were unbelievable. He always wanted to be the one who gave his daughter away, and that he did. His passing was that of great achievement. We can never forget the simple things in life. Thank God his Angels were there to help.” Below is a beautiful picture of a very proud father with his daughter.

Look out Banff – here we come!

Gil has one request – to spend Christmas in the mountains with his family. One memorable Christmas with his children Ryan who is 7 and Sara 6. One vacation in Banff with his children and wife Jennifer. One holiday to get away from Doctor’s appointments, treatments, and dealing with brain cancer. We are honored to be able to help this family and they are coming out from Ottawa on December 22nd and spending a week in Banff at the Delta Inn. Christmas will be playing in the snow at Banff, maybe going on a gondala ride in the mountains or just looking out the window at the incredible scenery that Banff has to offer. Ryan and Sara have never been on a plane – which will be an adventure all by itself! Gil has never been out West so this truly will be a week of new experiences and family memories. Stay tuned to find out how the holiday went!

Nicholas goes to Disneyland

nick_and_family5
Nicholas is a charming, wonderful 30 year old man with Down Syndrome. Nick also has chronic renal failure and the family made the very painful decision, after much deliberation, not to have Nick start on dialysis. Nicholas’ sister Penny wrote “Nick has hundred’s of Disney movies and spends a very large majority of his time watching his movies. We believe going to Disneyland would keep Nick alive – he loves it that much!” We set out to make Nick’s wish come true. We were able to send Nick along with his Mom Lorraine and sister Penny and her family down to Disneyland for a fabulous vacation that still has Nick talking about it. The pictures they sent us are proof of a fun time!

A Party for Marlee

Marlee-and-family
Marlee’s Aunt Sue wrote to us asking for help in giving her niece Marlee a very special party. Marlee wanted a party celebrating her life and she wanted all her family and friends around her to help celebrate. Marlee is a young 23 year old with a lovely, soft voice and when talking to her, we soon realized how important this party was. We were fortunate in having all the right people in place to help us with this Event. The Bayview Wildwood Resort went above and beyond to help us stage this Party. Marlee and her closest family and friends gathered for an afternoon BBQ with a “Celebration Cake” for dessert. A bonfire was built by the beach and marshmallows and roasting sticks were in supply. To finish off the evening, Hypnotist Richard Cole entertained the crowd and had them all under his spell for a riveting performance. Marlee chose a Hawaiin theme for her party and as the picture shows – it was an excellent choice.

Cody goes to Disneyland

cody_-_family_at_disney_world
Cody wrote to us of wanting to go to Disney World. At 20 years young, and suffereing with cancer that has spread to his brain, but Cody was keeping a positive attitude. He wrote “My family could never afford a vacation since I had 4 siblings. I remember the kids at school always telling stories about Disne yWorld and other enchanted tropical vacations. I would even dream at night lying in the sand on the nice beach with Mickey Mourse and Goofy themselves! I promised myself that one day I would take my family and spouse and kids to Disney World. But when I was diagnosed this limited my ability to work and make money to save for a vacation. Then I heard about Angels Anonymous. I crossed my fingers and prayed I would get my wish.Well I hope you consider me. I would be amazed if I received my wish. We wanted to give Cody his wish and we sent Cody and four of his family down to Disney World for a fun time of 4 days and nights of just having fun and not thinking about therapy or drugs or hospitals. Cody passed away January 10th after coming back from his holiday and his Mom wrote, ‘

Dear Angels Anonymous: On behalf of my son Cody Westlake, I would like to thank you for the amazing trip to Walt Disney World last August (2009). I’m sending a picture and in it are myself, Cody and his girlfriend Kelley and his two brothers Spencer and Carter. This trip was so well organized. I can’t believe how wonderful and kind people were. The rooms were beautiful and Cody woke us up each morning at 7 so we could get going and he kept us moving until 11 at night. His strength was amazing. I’m still in awe of all he did in his last year after being diagnosed with Cancer at 19 years of age – living his life to the fullest. The trip was a wish fulfilled and bless you all for granting it too him. Gratefully yours, Suzanne Westlake.
